Mothering When You’re Scared

Mothering When You’re Scared

Parenting in the context of family violence

1 in 3 mothers in Australia experience intimate partner violence between the birth of their first child and their child’s 10th birthday (Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, Feb 2026).

May is Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month, alongside Mother’s Day—a time to acknowledge the often-unseen realities many mothers face.
Mothering in the context of violence is complex and too often misunderstood.

Mothers need trauma-informed, compassionate support to:
  •  Rebuild connection with their children
  •  Make sense of disruption caused by abuse
  •  Navigate and reduce the burden of mother-guilt
